Delegate Black Opposes Loudoun Meals Tax

backgroundmoney

On Wednesday, March 25, the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors will decide whether to hold a food tax referendum.  The referendum could authorize a 4% meals tax on food consumed in county restaurants.
Delegate Dick Black, representing parts of Loudoun and Fairfax Counties, expressed displeasure with the new proposal.  "Just when we seemed to be getting a grip on county taxes, along comes a major new tax proposal.  I hope the Board of Supervisors will take a similar tough stand against new local taxes."

Black pointed out that the meals tax adds to the existing sales tax on food.  "A 4% meals tax will force families to pay a whopping 8 1/2% each time they eat out.  So just when we're about to start phasing out the car tax, along comes another big tax to

bureaucrats, and a burden on working families."
Delegate Dick Black says he hopes the Board clamps down on spending to protect consumers.  "I know they've worked hard to hold down property taxes.  But it won't help to limit that tax, then raise another."
